Linda Crossland is the Library Director of Calmar Public Library. She is certified by the State of Iowa as a Level III Library Director. She has been serving as Library Director since 2004. She, her husband, and daughter moved to Iowa in July 2002 after her husband retired from teaching in Arizona. At the present time, she and her family make their home in Calmar. Her husband is on staff at South Winneshiek High School, and their daughter, Alysson, graduated from South Winn HS in 2012. Alysson has completed her college courses in the field of Renewable Energy Resources/Electrical Technician and is currently working for Ideal Energy in Fairfield, Iowa where she performs solar panel installation on both residential and commercial buildings, as well as performing some electrical work. They have one dog and a menagerie of cats. Linda loves to spend time in her many gardens outside, and her entire family enjoy outdoor activities, such as camping, traveling, walking and hiking, plus being very active in their church at First Baptist Church of Elgin, IA. Linda also loves volunteering at least twice a week at the Love and Friendship Humane Society shelter in Decorah, Iowa, where she helps take care of the cats housed there.
Gladys Huinker is one of two part time library assistants who joined the staff in late fall 2015. Gladys has been a long-time resident of Calmar and in addition to working part time at the library, works full time at Wal-Mart in Decorah. She has two sons, Tim and Chris, who both live and work outside the home.
Vernelle Holthaus is one of two part time library library assistants who also joined the staff in late fall of 2015. Vernelle recently returned to the Calmar area and enjoys her job at the library as well as spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.
Both Gladys and Vernelle work at the library on alternating weekends and as the need arises, and certainly enjoy working with and meeting the people who visit the library.
